    Jay Dautcher Memorial Fund

We are gladdened to announce the establishment of a memorial fund for Jay at Indiana University, Bloomington, administered by Jay's dear friend and Uyghur expert Gardner Bovingdon. The purpose of the fund will be to recognize Jay's extraordinary scholarship in Uyghur studies, and to support and encourage young scholars in the field in his memory. IU is one of the few institutions in the US, and indeed the world, that trains students in and promotes research on the language, culture, and history of the world's roughly twelve million Uyghurs, as well as the contemporary affairs of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwest China and the neighboring countries of Central Asia where most Uyghurs live. Given the tense situation in the region in recent years, there has unfortunately never been a more important time to support such study and research.

If you would like to contribute, please go to https://www.myiu.org/one-time-gift and choose the following from the drop-down menu:

    - School and Colleges
    - IU Bloomington
    - School of Global and International Studies
    - School of Global and International Studies enrichment fund
    - In the gift area, write: Memory of Jay Dautcher fund

If you would prefer to send a check, please make it out to the following address, with a notation that it be earmarked in memory of Jay Dautcher.

    Indiana University Foundation
    1500 State Rd 46, Bloomington, IN 47408

    In the spirit of Jay...
Leaving you with one of Jay's favorite Uyghur sayings, which can be found in his book, Down a Narrow Road:

When you have teeth, eat meat!

As Jay explained, it's a reminder for people (vegetarians included) to take enthusiastic advantage of our personal abilities and gifts, while we still have them and are here on earth to make use of them. Jay certainly did.
