Radio Free Asia (RFA) is seeking a talented and resourceful Editor for its Uyghur Service. This position will be based in RFA’s Washington, DC, offices.

Responsibilities Include

Assist the Director in planning, directing and supervising the development of program materials, analyzing political, cultural and economic trends in order to meet objectives, and presenting a cohesive, listener-friendly broadcast.
Assist the Director in all Service administrative matters, training, and staff scheduling.
Assist in maintaining quality control on all Service broadcasts, monitoring broadcasts and consulting with the Director on ways to improve productions.
Assist in interpreting RFA policy on all sensitive issues, guiding subordinates and reviewing scripts for compliance with stated instructions.
Assist in directing the development of original feature scripts on news, current events, or other topics that might be of particular interest to the people of the target area.
Assist in maintaining contact with target area specialists, discussing issues and ideas pertinent to program development. Help keep staff informed on political, cultural and economic developments that may contribute to a production.


Required language skills: Spoken and written fluency in Uyghur and Chinese, and working proficiency in English.
Exceptional knowledge of modern Uyghur language, grammar and spelling.
Demonstrated experience in broadcast or print journalism (minimum two years’ Uyghur-related broadcast or print experience preferred).
Demonstrated editing skills and judgement with knowledge of editing tools and software, such as Word, Yulghun, and Uyghur Edit.
Academic credentials (Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field from an accredited college or university preferred) or equivalent transferable skills showing ability to assist in planning, directing, and producing live on-air shows as well as in making pre-air editorial corrections under tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and team-work skills.
Track record of professional integrity and high regard for ethics and objectivity
Management experience in a culturally diverse environment a plus
Experience writing and publishing articles, opinion pieces, academic papers, stories, poems or books in Uyghur, Chinese, English or other languages preferred.
Multimedia experience a plus.
