Quake strikes in China

AN earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck in western China near the border with Kashmir early today, the Government said.


The quake hit at 2:12 am (0412 AEST) near Hotan city in the Xinjiang region, the China Earthquake Administration said on its website.
There were no immediate reports of casualties. And local officials contacted by AFP would not comment on the quake.
The US Geological Survey measured the quake at 5.3.
