THREE people have been detained in east China's Shandong Province for posing as Eastern Turkistan terrorists to blackmail a business for 2 million yuan (US$290,600), Legal Daily reported today.

A caller phone an unnamed business at about 2:20pm last Thursday claiming he was with Eastern Turkistan terrorists and demanded 2.08 million yuan. The man threatened to bomb the business if it refused to pay, according to the newspaper.

Soon after the call police in Qingdao City named Sun Zhongzheng and two other men, Wu and Wangm as suspects and launched a massive manhunt in neighboring Jimo, Pingdu and Laixi districts.

Officers caught Sun, 23, and Wu, 25, early on Saturday in a Qingdao guest house.

Wang, 41, was captured at about 10am at a nearby long-distance bus station.

All three are Shandong natives.

Sun was reported to have lost money gambling and planned to extort money by fabricating a fake terrorist threat.

The three may face up to 10 years of imprisonment.
