We are organizing a panel for the upcoming Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS) Sixth Annual Conference in September 29-October 2, 2005, hosted by Boston University.
Panel Title: China's Westward Expansion
A brief announcement on the web is: "The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and China's policy of opening up the "vast north-west" has significantly re-shaped the economic and political situation from western China to Central Asia and eastern Russia. New social, political, economic and environmental questions have become major concerns among the countries in that region. This panel (which might eventually run as a roundtable rather than a regular panel) will create an opportunity for scholars and policy specialists to discuss the common problems and looming issues facing China's neighbors to the west."
Please contact me with your topics, new topics or pass it to someone who is interested in participating in this panel.
The deadline for submitting paper abstracts is April 1st, but I would like to hear from you as soon as possible.
