BBC Worldwide goes 'Wild' about China

Natural History Channel, CTV team on new series

By CLIFFORD COONAN

BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial arm, is planning its first co-production with China, natural history skein "Wild China."

Series involves a tie-up between the Beeb's Natural History Unit and China Television Media (CTV), the production arm of Chinese pubcaster CCTV, the BBC said in a statement issued from Mipcom in Cannes this week.
The Travel Channel and Gaul's Canal Plus are also aboard. The six-part series, to be shot in high definition, is due for delivery in March 2008 to coincide with the Beijing Olympics. "Wild China" marks the culmination of the BBC Natural History Unit's "Continents" series.

Skein will visit some of China's most impressive natural sites, including the ancient Han kingdom, the Mongol steppes and Uighur desert, the Silk Road and the Tibetan Plateau.

Gao Xiaoping, general manager of CTV, hailed the cooperation that would bring the world "a new view of China's beautiful landscapes and fascinating wildlife before the 2008 Olympic Games."
