it is very unfortunate to know that we lost two important academicians,

I could not attend the funeral of neither

esteemed Mr.Hemit Temur (linguist)

nor esteemed Ms.Tursunay Sakim

although I was in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

but guiding Ms.Elaine Koretsky -famous paper historian from USA

in the vicinity of Khotan searching for surviving papermakers.

I noticed from messages on this board that
Mr.Temur has been properly introduced to those of us
who had not known much about his works;

so I owe it to Ms.Sakim
to write a few lines about her contribution
to Uygur-Turkish and Chinese literature history.

for the time being some major titles from her translations of Turkish literature:

from Yasar Kemal :Mehmet Awak 1-2-3-4 (ince memed)

from Resat Nuri Guntekin : Chalikushu (was adapted into TV film)
also Echinix (acimak)

from Kerime Nadir : Uykusuz Kicheler
also Oksush (hickirik)

from Sabahattin Ali : Cughuluk hanim ( kurk mantolu madonna)

from Aziz Nesin : Hikayeler toplami

from Resat Genc : Karahanlilar Devlet Teshkilati

from Bahattin Ogel : Hunlar Tarihi

from Yunus Emre : poems into Uygur and Chinese languages

I HAVE VISITED ESTEEMED LINGUIST MR.TAHIRCAN MUHAMMED IN URUMCHI

AND HE GAVE ME :

LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION JOURNAL OF XINJIANG

vol.156,no.1 November 2006

on page 63 is his article about Ms.Tursunay Sakim :

DISTINGUISHED ANNOUNCER PRODUCTIVE LITERATURE TRANSLATOR
AND DILIGENT RESEARCHER OF LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE:
Mrs.Tursunay Sakim......

a personal anectode:

in 2000 I was trying to announce the 5th International Islamic Calligraphy competition organized by IRCICA to the calligraphers of Uygur and Tungan communities in China and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,
she had helped me greatly in translating the rules of participation,

and this year I was hoping to work with her to translate some major works
from Uygur and Chinese literature into Turkish...

MAY GOD BLESS MR.TEMUR AND MRS.SAKIM

TORCHES OF UYGUR CIVILIZATION

WITH ETERNAL PEACE

cordially
