A part of them stayed in the cities of Xinjiang. In the mid-18th century, during the reign of Qing Dynasty, Xinjiang became a part of China. From this time one, the number of migrants from Central Asia to China increased.
The migration of Uzbeks to China continued until the early 20th century. Apart from merchants, the migrants included craftsmen, intelligentsia, and farmers. Since Uzbeks are concentrated in the cities, they have great opportunities to get good education. For this reason, many Uzbeks are intelligent people, many of them working in public education.
