View Full Version : "Xinjiang" province
Presently, Almost All the English Language Publications in the USA and Other Countries are Using "Xinjing Province" Instead of "Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region". Is the Name Changed as the Number of Chinese Immigrants to "Xinjiang" Increased Dramatically in the Last Several Years or Is it just a Ignorance?
Does it really matter? Even if everyone uses "autonomous region", there is no real autonomy and freedom for the Uyghur people. I think what we have lost is not just the name of our country, it is the land, people, and much more...

Yes, Uyghurs have not much rights in the region, but I think there is big difference between using autonomous region and province. I suspect this is a deliberate action before changing it officially in the near future.
What I heard was the Chinese immigrants were requesting to take out "Uyghur" from "Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region" because they think the Uyghurs are not majority anymore, so they can not represent this region. To me, the name,Xinjiang, itself is offensive enough coz it has strong colonial tone. Now it is getting worse:(
