Commerce and Colonization: A presentation on China’s Muslim borderlands and growing influence in Central Asia

Eric Enno Tamm’s book “The Horse That Leaps Through Clouds: A Tale of Espionage, the Silk Road and the Rise of Modern China” retraces the epic journey of a Russian spy who travelled through Central Asia and chronicled the mod¬ernization of China from 1906 to 1908.
A century later, Tamm fol¬lowed in Mannerheim’s foot¬steps along the Silk Road to China’s borderland region, home to Turkic Muslims, Ti¬betans and Mongols.
In his lecture, the author dis¬cuss China’s borderland pol¬icy over the last century and looks at China’s growing in¬fluence and commercial ties to Central Asia.

Eric Enno Tamm is an author, journalist and analyst with more than fifteen years experience in the media and nonprofit sector. He
hold’s an MA in journalism from the University of Southern California and an MA in European Affairs from Lund University, Sweden.
“The Horse That Leaps Through Clouds” is his second book.
