TWO shop operators in Urumchi, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, have been punished for writing "No admission to Chinese" on their shops, Xinhua news agency reported yesterday.

A woman, named Zheng, found such wording on a shop's door curtain when she was strolling around the shopping area. But the operator in the shop was Chinese, Zheng said.

She took a picture of the curtain by mobile phone and wrote down the shop number before reporting to the authorities.

Xinhua said another shop was also found with the same wording on its door.

Authorities decided to expel the operators from the shopping area, Xinhua said.
