All,
As everybody know, China Telecom and China Unicom are two companies who own the most (if not all) telephone and Internet communication in Uyghur region.
Indiscriminately cutting off both telephone communication and Internet communication based on the ethnicity of a population is very wrong. If this kind behavior happened at US, those companies are in big trouble with many law suits already. I believe there must be some international law which regulates the behavior of International companies. I just don't know what it is.
It was realized that both of these companies are listed at NYSE (NYSE, New York Stock Exchange). I've already contacted with regulation department of NYSE (Tel: 212-656-3000) and asked about their regulations regarding Human rights related behavior of companies they represent. I've asked:
- What if a company represented by NYSE violates a basic rights of people?
- NYSE is helping them to make money at US. Does it mean NYSE is also supporting illegal actions of those companies?
Their answer was not clear.
I am trying to find out if we can do anything against the China Telecom and China Unicom in the United States. The violations are happening in China, but their stocks are being sold in US. There must be some US law or rule we can use and force them to correct their bad behavior.
Any ideas?
