Associate Professorship in the Modern Cultures and Societies of Western China and Central Asia
The Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies invites applications for the position of Associate Professor (“lektor”) in the Modern Cultures and Societies of Western China and Central Asia, to be filled the 1st of February 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The applicant must expect to participate in the Asian Dynamics Initiative (ADI), as hosted by the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, which coordinates existing research and teaching relating to Asia and Asian matters. In addition, ADI functions as a catalyst for developing new and innovative courses and research projects in this field of science.

The successful candidate should expect to teach on the cultures and societies of contemporary Western China and Central Asia at the BA and MA levels, as well as supervise PhD-students. Research must include the use of source materials in at least one indigenous language. Moreover, it is anticipated that the position requires an active role in developing and implementing cross-disciplinary courses and research projects within the framework of the Asian Dynamics Initiative, which includes wider knowledge dissemination to peers and laypeople, domestically as well as internationally.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, high level research experience and be committed to teaching undergraduates and graduates. They should also have administrative experience and be willing to actively develop the Asian Dynamics Initiative at the University of Copenhagen. In addition to the material required in the General Conditions, the applicant should include a brief statement of visions for the development of the academic field related to the Asian Dynamics Initiative with regard to both research and teaching.
