BEIJING (Reuters) - The leader of China's restive far-western region of Xinjiang has warned of a "life and death struggle" against terrorism, following a series of attacks that raised fears of threats to the Olympic Games.

The oil-rich region, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has been hit with three separate attacks on government posts in the past two weeks that authorities blame on Muslim separatists seeking to disrupt the Games.

Xinjiang Communist Party secretary Wang Lequan "pointed out that leaders at all levels must deeply understand that the struggle against the 'three forces' is one of life or death," Thursday's Xinjiang Daily said, referring to terrorism, separatism and religious extremism, forces China says are threats to its security and unity.

It accused extremists in Xinjiang, more than 3,000 km (1,860 miles) from Beijing, of seeking a separate state of East Turkestan, but critics charge such threats have been exaggerated by a regime bent on controlling the culture and religion of the minority ethnic Uighurs who populate the region.

"In Xinjiang, the fight against separatist forces is long-term, arduous and complex," the newspaper quoted Wang as telling a leadership meeting.

Security forces must "stick to a strategy of seizing the initiative to strike pre-emptively, closely guard against and attack separatist sabotage by the three forces and never allow our enemies to gain strength."

He said an attack on August 4 in the region's Silk Road city of Kashgar that killed 16 police was "planned, organized and premeditated terrorist violence."

"After the incident, relevant authorities handled it according to law, preserved social stability and the normal order of work and life," Wang said.

The suspects, both Uighurs, were arrested on the spot.

But the region has since seen further violence, on Sunday, when suicide bombers launched a dozen attacks with homemade grenades in the town of Kuqa, and on Tuesday, when three security officers in Shule county were stabbed to death.

Beijing's Olympic organizers have said that Xinjiang separatists are seeking to use the platform of the Games to "amplify the effects" of their attacks. In an allusion to tensions between Han Chinese and minority Uighurs who, like many Tibetans and Mongolians, chafe at controls on their culture, Wang said that in battling separatism "ethnic unity and unity between the races must be preserved."

If ethnic unity really means anything to China, it does not need to look further. Wang Lequan, the party secretary of Xinjiang, has carefully nurtured the ethnic hatred in Xinjiang to use it as a tool for himself to climb the power hierarchy within Chinese communist party. The more intense and problematic the ethnic relations are, the important his job looks, giving him opportunity to portray himself as a national hero who is solidifying China’s hold on a problematic border region. The relations between the local people and the immigrant Chinese had never been very smooth, but it was never as intense and full of hatred as it has been after Wang Lequan came to Xinjiang. The uneasy relationship before him was mainly based on the cultural differences between two peoples who were trying to learn to live with their new neighbors, but now it is based on deep hatred of each other thanks to Wang Lequan. China’s flying economy in the past two decades has offered China with a rare opportunity to truly reconcile with Uyghurs by providing them with opportunity to grow and develop as a nation within China, but China used it to the opposite effect on Wang’s advise and succeeded making the inter-ethnic hatred permanently deeper.
As we have witnessed in the past couple of days, the intensity of the situation appeared come to a tipping point. Young Uyghurs cornered against bottomless cliffs are fighting back with whatever they got, often times nothing more than their young lives. This could be the beginning of a new phase in Uyghur-Chinese relations marked by vicious circle of deadly violence. So far things seem to be going in China’s favor as Wang perhaps expected, but if one day the situations gets out of hand and wind starts to turn against them, I hope China will be able to see what kind of sick game Wang has been playing. Wang should be the public enemy number one if China really means what t says about “harmonious society.”

Someone said "The goon, wanglequan, the top killer, the sophisticated thief, elementary school level “politician”, the masterful deceiver, notorious vampire made the region fallen to compelete disaster, The bloodsucker always want to see blood, humans’ blood, want to be things always happen as what they announced in front of the outer. " in the his/her message.

I am obsolutely agree with both of the above. The ccp should pay a serious attention why the people always go against the "harmony society" wether local Uyghur pleople have the equal condition on sharing enducation facilities, goverment jobs, resources distributing, bank loans, market governing and so on, are Uyghur really "belonged" to be in the scope of your citizinships if cpp is a serious, responsible and considerate party for their people in nationally and internationally. it is matter-of-fact that the local people who have jobs in the government become more and more slavish, losting their personalities and humanity then be more excessive that the level of chinese way, and the "excellent runner" of them are prometed to the position which is everything free. this is the chinese culture being stretching still present? How can the others handle their life without "lure" in their cage? is it enough to wacht the high buildings, gaudy department stories, lucxurious jeeps stunningly? or commit cuicite collectively? In fact, many chinese scholars has the same opinions as the local people. ever many a human scholars in the universities and hospitals moved to guangdong, shanghai, shenjen, the place which is less or no "socialism", it is a stone fact that the majority of the local people have already been marginalized, and then having been compelled to the level just like weiguangli (a chinese-canadian who killed a boy by unhuman way, you can surf net). this is the certain outcome! But, the ccp can take a time to consider all of these? The minion, wangleQUAN is much more familiar with the way the top learders how can get their power like those mao, ding, jiang, even some other smaller hugs! Bamboozling people is their regular way to govern the citizens, and other countries, then, extenting their way internationally like fake song in the hazy, foggy ceremony by paticipation of thousads of armed polices, debasing the OLYMPIC spirits! I couldn't agree to "cpp=evil" any more.

"We don't want to be part of China, period."

So when are the Uighurs going to revolt and throw off the yoke of Chinese oppression?
